Day 5 Houma to New Orleans – 70 miles traveled

Today was a big day as we went thru the Algiers Lock into the Mississippi River and then thru the Industrial Lock out of the Mississippi River.  We had a 1 hour wait at the Algiers Lock and a 2-1/2 hour wait at the Industrial lock before we went thru.  Felt lucky getting thru because the commercial traffic is waiting 2 days now.  The L & N Railroad bridge has never disappointed and closed on us as we approached.  We waited 30 min or so before pulling in to Pontchartrain Landing Marina.  Even though we went only 70 miles it took us over 12 hours because of the wait times and no wake areas.

Above is our route for the day

Serenity tied to the Industrial Lock Ballard waiting our turn.  This is the only lock which has a tie up where pleasure boats can wait.

Entering the Industrial Lock and the raising of the Saint Claude Ave Bridge.  Saint Claude Ave Bridge is the only bridge you call on VHF Channel 14, all other bridges are on VHF Channel 13.
