12/5-12/12/2016 Finally on Our Way Again

Old man winter has finally decided to let us cross the gulf. Yeah!!!!!  As much as we enjoyed our time in Carrabelle, we are ready to get our sea legs back and start moving.  This morning we are anchored at Dog Island, a barrier island about 45 min. from Carrabelle.  We came out yesterday afternoon with our traveling buddies, Steve, Deidra and dog, Trouble, aboard Osprey.  Steve dinged us to shore with the pups for a much needed Run on the beach. .

An abandoned house on the south side of Dog Island.
The skeleton of and old wooden vessel. There’s not enough. Left to tell if she was a shrimper or a sailboat. While a disaster for someone, she was eerily pretty lying in the sand.
Soon after we arrived, 12 other boats huddled in.
The anchorage at Dog Island.
We are all looking to make the crossing today.  A couple boats left early this morning for Steinhatchee, wanting to do a daylight only trip.  The rest of us should be heading out around noon.  We will travel through the night and arrive in the Tarpon Springs/Clearwater area around noonish tomorrow.  The noon arrival time is due to a couple factors.  We will be heading east as we come into the channel and we don’t want to arrive too early as the sun will be reflecting off the water right into our eyes.  It is better to come in when the sun is higher in the sky.  The area is also well know for crab pots and we have to be able to see them to avoid grabbing them in our props.

So now, let me go back and catch you up on the last few days.  Monday we had Subject to Change hauled out of the water so we could have the bow thruster prop changed.  We’re not sure what we got in there, but we sure hope it doesn’t happen again.  All of the blades were completely sheared off.

Looking into the bow thruster tube.
You can see where the blades should be.

Carrabelle ain’t big, but they sure know how to throw a Christmas party.  On Saturday, the whole town came out for a street festival and Christmas boat parade.  Streets in downtown Carrabelle were closed off, vendors displayed their goodies and Santa arrived on a firetruck.

I though this little “train” was so cute. CLS buddies- you too could make one.

Santa rode in on the fire truck.
All you need is a dolly and plastic barrels
I couldn’t resist buying these cute earrings made from fishing lures.  Hmmm maybe I can make some and restock the cruising kitty.
My new fishing lure earrings.
It was a beautiful day.  That evening 26 decorated boats cruised down the Carrabelle River followed by a fireworks show.  A great evening.

  1. Dog Island looks like an interesting place – the sort of place that good for beach walking.
    The boat parade was neat.

Thanks for all of the pictures and the call (well maybe not all of the pictures, if you know what I mean!)
